As parents, it can be so difficult to work out which products to pick for your toddlers. As you go down the baby and toddler aisle your presented with a wall of colour, clever marketing messages and a crazy amount of products. We've put together our top tips to help you cut through noise and buy the best products.
Tip 1: Check the Ingredients List.
This is essential to understand what's in the meal and whether it's any good! If there are a range of ingredients that you need to be a Doctor to understand then that's definitely a warning sign! It's so important when feeding toddlers to use as many natural, wholesome and high quality ingredients as possible.
Tip 2: Nutritional Content
The biggest give away of whether it's a high quality meal or not is what the macro-nutritional levels are, i.e. protein, fibre, carbohydrates, calories, sugar and salt. Broadly speaking you want products with low sugar and salt content and high protein and fibre. Even if the product looks healthy as it just contains fruit, it can be incredibly high in sugar which might send your toddler haywire!
Tip 3: Is it textured?
We believe that toddlers need textured food to help their oral development and getting them comfortable with feeling different foods in their mouths. Even though some products are labelled as 'lumpy' or 'textured' you can feel through the pouch to see how textured it is. An easy giveaway is also whether the packaging has a spout on, if it does then it begs the question how properly textured food can fit through.
Tip 4: Would you eat it yourself?!
Ok before you tell me that the product is designed for toddlers not adults, we believe this is such an underrated factor to consider. Toddlers need their taste buds to develop by exploring different flavours and smells. If you're not willing to eat the food is it really good enough for your little one?
